| Market Town Taverns opened the Tithe Bar and Brasserie in 2001
Situated in what was once called Thorn Gap, the building was originally a tithe barn for the Northallerton district. It was used to store wheat and other agricultural produce paid as tithes for the Bishopric of Durham.
Following this use,the building was used by many local craftsmen such as joiners, blacksmiths, wheelwrights & saddlers. In the 1890's, Langtons, the ironmongers, saddlers, boot & shoemakers were established here
In the 1990's the building was converted to The Tanner Hop Bar & Function Rooms which closed following a flood in 2000.
The ground floor bar area is spacious, yet divided into three intimate areas, creating a very welcoming ambience.
